HopeWorks is a non-profit in Memphis, TN providing hope and transformation through education, spiritual development, and respect for work. HopeWorks accomplishes this mission through Adult Education and job skills training classes. These programs help develop self-confidence and personal responsibility.
HopeWorks strives to break the cycle of crime, addiction and generational poverty by implementing a holistic approach through daily classes, meals, educational training and spiritual counseling.
In 1988, several area churches considered how to care for the poor and homeless in Memphis. The original concept was to provide temporary housing, which grew into the Life Skills Lab—a program that helped the chronically unemployed become self-directed and goal-oriented. The organization’s name changed to HopeWorks Inc. in 1998, offering a “Personal Career and Development” (PCD) 13-week class course. In 2015, HopeWorks Inc. graduated its 98th PCD class with over 1,000 graduates total.
