“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11″
Recently I have been watching a new program which takes a group of very unique, different, and committed persons under the employ of the dead letter office (DLO) of the United States Postal Service. The show entitled, Signed, Sealed, and Delivered, focuses on the exploits of this group of dedicated individuals to make sure every letter is delivered, often with life altering or changing experiences. If you are looking for a “feel good” show, this is it.
But a common theme which continues to appear is the attempt to help everyone know that God is active in the world and that through the intervention and involvement of the Deity, those whose path is crossed find a hope and a future beyond that which they imagined. What a wonderful message to be at the center of our lives.
As we now have entered the Advent season and we anticipate the celebration of the birth of the Christ child again, may we truly understand that, just as Jeremiah had told the Israelites on the eve of their exile, that God has plans for us, that we have a hope and a future beyond that which we can even imagine. As we enter this season of giving, may we remember that as stewards of God’s gifts, WE can assist in the hope and future of so many. May we work together to be the instruments of God’s gifts to so many of his children!
